RUSSELL SIMMONS - The Diamond Empowerment Fund

The Simmons Jewelry Company, co-owned by Russell Simmons and Kimora Lee Simmons, has established a non-profit international organisation “The Diamond Empowerment Fund (DEF)” with the mission to raise money for the development and empowerment of people and communities in Africa where diamonds are a natural resource. This came following Russell Simmons’ recent trip to South Africa and Botswana on a fact-finding mission as to how the diamond industry contributes to the empowerment of Africa, specifically those two countries.
The Simmons Jewelry Company thus launched the Green Initiative collection, whose purpose is to raise funds for the DEF. The company has designed and is manufacturing specialized Green Initiative jewelry. The collection is a unique combination of modern, traditional and inspirational hip-hop inspired jewelry in stainless steel, green rubber and diamonds. The line features the diamond encrusted Ohm Watch and Ohm pendant, as well as bracelets, pendants, chains and rings priced from $200 - $80,000. The first Green Initiative piece, the Green Bracelet – made from genuine native African green malachite beads and a rough African conflict-free diamond, has already been worn by the likes of Penelope Cruz, Paris Hilton, Gabrielle Union, Serena Williams, Eddie Murphy and Beyonce, amongst many.
